Through the World I Am Wandering...
As I posted on Facebook, last night was my last all-nighter of the semester. I successfully wrote a five page paper on Virginia Woolf that was reminiscent of my junior year of high school, but more scholarly-sounding.
I also wrote a little poem (although I swore, after Tennyson, that I would never write poetry again...I was tired. That's my excuse).
3 a.m. vegan pancakes
Which I eat while trying,
Attempting, endeavoring,
To find a synonym for the verb
"To be"
Apparently there isn't one
And I can only use "acts"
So many times.
I bet Virginia Woolf wouldn't
Find it this difficult
To explain her feelings
About writing.
I bet she could also think
Of many other verbs besides
"Is".
But it's late and I'm tired
And, although I'm in a room of my own,
I am no Virginia Woolf.
I think, in my paper I used "tries", "endeavors", "strives", "attempts", "exists", "acts", and other verbs at least three times each. And this is because Dr. Susser doesn't like it when we use "to be" or its forms. Because, according to him, we use it improperly. (Does he both to educate us on how to use it properly? Of course not. Just like he wouldn't tell me the difference between evidence and examples.)
I combed through my paper and made sure there were no "is"s. He gets a lot of purple-verbs instead. Yuck. Oh well.
In other news, today is my official last day as a college freshmen. I would do a list like I did last semester of everything that I learned, but it's pretty same-y as the aforementioned one: don't procrastinate, sleep, try to eat, etc. The only difference this semester is that my professor did set a due-date for my honors contract, which was very nice.
So my summer begins this afternoon with Iron-Man 2 and a nap. Because I IS very sleepy. Now I want to use "is" just out of spite...
Happy summer!
